We also try to grow pumpkins and melons; this is not that easy.
Pumpkins need special treatment; it is best if they can climb upwards and you have appropriate racks. After 2 or 3 fruits you should cut off the tendrils, otherwise they will grow too much into the leaves and not produce any fruit.
The fruit fly also causes a big problem, especially in very humid, wet climates. We bought special traps for this that are equipped with a kind of biscuit that attracts the flies by smell and then kills them when they fly into the box. This is a biological process. 
It's amazing when you see after a week how many fruit flies end up in the box.
The fresh leaves of the pumpkin are also eaten like spinach and prepared together with ugali or with potatoes or rice.
The zucchini plants also need special attention. Fertilization between the male and female flowers is crucial. If not, enough bees are attracted, you can take the male flowers and use them to pollinate the female ones by hand. Here too, care must be taken not to let too many leaves grow so that there is enough strength to produce fruit.

Malenge yanahitaji matibabu maalum; ni bora ikiwa wanaweza kupanda juu na una rafu zinazofaa. Baada ya matunda 2 au 3 unapaswa kukata mikunjo, vinginevyo itakua sana kwenye majani na haitoi matunda yoyote.
Nzi wa matunda pia husababisha shida kubwa, haswa katika hali ya hewa yenye unyevunyevu na unyevu. Tulinunua mitego maalum kwa hii ambayo ina aina ya biskuti ambayo huvutia nzi kwa harufu na kisha kuwaua wakati wanaruka kwenye sanduku. Huu ni mchakato wa kibiolojia.
Inashangaza unapoona baada ya wiki ngapi nzi wa matunda huishia kwenye sanduku.
Majani mabichi ya malenge pia huliwa kama mchicha na kutayarishwa pamoja na ugali au viazi au wali.
Mimea ya zucchini pia inahitaji tahadhari maalum. Mbolea kati ya maua ya kiume na ya kike ni muhimu. Ikiwa sio, nyuki za kutosha huvutiwa, unaweza kuchukua maua ya kiume na kuyatumia kuchafua wale wa kike kwa mkono. Hapa pia, tahadhari lazima ichukuliwe ili usiruhusu majani mengi kukua ili kuwe na nguvu ya kutosha ya kuzalisha matunda.

There is no growing soil like we have here. But LILIAN in the neighbouring nursery manages with shade and mulch that almost all of my seeds come up from Spain. It's amazing how she does it. Only the marigold seeds worry us and don't come. I do not know why that is. It is always important to find someone who knows the earth and the climate here. Some seeds don't need such humus-rich soil to start, some like the avocado seeds just need enough water and then need 2 months until they have grown roots in order to plant them in soil. Her place is next to the old lady with her flower nursery, who gave her permission to do it there, but she does not have any paper. I have now received an official letter and a permit as well as a water connection. So, she now has the right to run her small nursery there, and we have our own water connection with a meter.   What's coming is Alium Giganteum, I brought the seeds with me from Andalusia, they all came straight away.
